The Utica-Dunkirk 550001527 Ignitor is a hot surface ignition part that generates the heat needed to ignite the gas burner heating unit without requiring a standing pilot flame. It operates by drawing electrical current through a resistive silicon nitride or silicon carbide element of HVAC systems, which heats immediately to a temperature sufficient to ignite the gas-air mixture at the burner surface when the control board initiates a heating cycle. Fitted in gas-fired boilers and hydronic heating units, it is attached at the burner assembly using a bracket and linked to the ignition circuit through the indicated wiring connector.
