The Rheem-Ruud SP20171A is a key component for Liquid Propane (LP) gas-fired furnaces and other LP gas-burning appliances.Hence, typically it can be characterized by opening and closing at intervals regulated by a thermostat or similar control device allowing gas to flow through it. In short, when heating systems are switched on, they send signals to the attached thermostat which opens up this valve thereby allowing LP gas into its combustion chamber. On the contrary once desired temperatures have been attained then such thermostats tell shut off valves like these ones hence making sure there is no more passage.
