The carrier HT31AZ120 is a part that is referred to as a crankcase heater that is intended for Carrier HVAC equipment; probably outdoor condenser units. This long, slender heater 48” with a 7” insertion depth is essentialin avoiding oil viscosity problems, especially during cold weather. The crankcase heater gives low heat output to keep the oil at the right viscosity for easy compressor start-up in cold climates. By pre-heating the crankcase oil, smooth compressor start-up, and compressor stability during cold climates are achieved to avoid hard start or failure. The right oil viscosity at start up reduces friction and wear on the compressor parts hence the possibility of increasing the life of your AC.
